Food has that kind of POWER!
There is food that will build and nurture your body and then there is food that will tear you down, ruin your heart, give you diabetes and age you rapidly.
That’s the truth whether we want to hear it or not. Food has that kind of POWER!
You may never have the kind of money that Oprah does to be able to buy the services of a personal chef or personal trainer for that matter. You may never be able to afford the latest in plastic surgery and designer skincare.
What you CAN afford however, is to feed yourself and your family as healthfully as possible. It just takes a desire and a “want to” attitude!
Without taking out a second mortgage, here are 7 things we can do NOW to achieve better health tomorrow:
- First Thirst. Water is cheap, readily available and will boost your health, your absorption of nutrients and give you great skin!
- Big on Breakfast. Eating breakfast gets your metabolism started, your appetite handled and consequently, helps you to stabilize, maybe even lose weights!
- Eat in Season. Fresh fruits and veggies can be expensive, but if you buy in season, you’re going to get superior quality and less cash outlay!
- Watch the Iceberg. There are FAR better lettuces out ther. Iceberg is nearly a nutritional void. Let the color GREEN be your guide; the greener the better!
- Brown Outs. Skip the white rice, white flour and white sugar and go for the whole-wheat flour, brown rice and evaporated cane juice instead. All of which should be used sparingly!
- Go Fish. Eat wild fish instead of farm-raised fish to enjoy the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids not found in farm-raised.
- Better Butter. Use half olive oil and butter whipped together, or better yet use coconut oil to replace both!
Start thinking, I mean really thinking about what you want to accomplish on your next trip to the grocery store. Is it to give your body the nutrients it truly needs to thrive or is it to merely fill that void between your breastbone and hipbones?
It’s your choice!

Health, Natural Remedies, Uncategorized | Comments (4)What is More Important than Eating Right?
Did you know 87% of disease can be linked to thought life and only 13% is traceable to food, genetics and environmental influences?
While I consider myself moderately healthy, after working several years with spinal cord and brain injury patients, I realized how important it was to have a happy heart, a clean mind, right thoughts and then ….eat right.
I bared witness to life changing events, events that left people living by different means. Events that should have ended their lives, but miraculously didn’t. Some of my patients were injured and left paralyzed by car accidents, motorcycle accidents, bicycling, skiing, diving and even mosquito bites.
Yes several of my patients were paralyzed from the neck down due to a mosquito bite! One of my favorite patients whom I became very close with was injured pushing a lawn mower, tripped and fell breaking her spinal cord. Pretty unbelievable, no?
While I was in the midst of tragedy, I had my most treasured laughs. You see all of these people had the heart of lions. They didn’t let their accident take over their emotions. They excepted their new life and embraced it with gratitude. Watching them, empowered me to do the same.
We put a handicap on those who do not walk like us, talk like us, see like us and think like us, yet those who we consider “normal” are the ones crippled by their emotions. They make up 98% of the population whom are taken hostage by themselves and their thoughts!
I made many lasting friendships from Hawaii to Europe. I was invited to move to Kauai with a family as well as flown to Olathe, Kansas to train a family’s new staff. It was a privilege and honor to work amongst such extraordinary human beings.
So the next time you eat right~be sure you are the 2% that is also feeding your mind and soul the nutrition it needs!
God Bless!

Health, Marketing, Personal Growth, Raw recipes, Self Improvement | Comments (4)How Much Soy is in Your Diet???
As always… all things should be read with a critical eye :~) I found an interesting article about the foods we should watch out for, I had to do a double take on the part about soy.
Did you know soy got its beginning as an INDUSTRIAL WASTE PRODUCT?
Research has shown that just two glasses of soy milk a day for one month are enough to change a woman’s menstrual cycle! And feeding soy to infants is even more devastating. It has been found that infants fed exclusively on soy formula are ingesting FIVE birth control pills worth of estrogen daily!
Yes the things they say are good for us now will probably differ in the morning but I do feel this article is at the very least worth a look. To read more visit: http://nourishedmagazine.com.au/blog/articles/soy-the-abominable-bean

Health | Comments (3)What Happens to Your Body Within an Hour of Drinking a Coke?
Need a dose of energy? I stumbled upon this article about drinking coke. I have never been big on soda and after reading this I am grateful.
Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can’t even state all the consequences. Here’s what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:
Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100% of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.
Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.
Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.
Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain – a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.
After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have a sugar crash.

Did you know in a recent study, researchers found sugar was far more addictive than cocaine? The study showed that 94% of the rats that were allowed to choose mutually between sugar water and cocaine, chose sugar. Even the rats that were addicted to cocaine quickly switched their preference to sugar, once it was offered as a choice.
As one reader commented in my previous post, even though sugar is not classified as a drug, if it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck…! So, if you’re like me, you have sworn off soda and turned the candy bowl into an unsalted nut bowl. No more sugar, no more problems, right?
Well yes, except for the fact that once again the food industry has cleverly snuck its addictive sugars into products that we would never think of looking. Why, you ask? Why not, if sugar is as addictive as the researchers suggest, we will of course be buying more to feed our need. Their concern is strictly to keep our sugar jones at a simmering boil so we spend more money!
Here are 6 types of products whose labels could bear more scrutiny:
1. Spaghetti Sauce-A half cup of store-bought sauce can contain as many as three teaspoons of corn syrup or sugar.
2. Ketchup- Ketchup can be 20% sugar or more. Not to mention that you’ll be getting 7% of your daily sodium allowance in one tablespoon.
3. Reduced Fat Cookies-So they took out the fat, but guess what they replaced it with? You bet, sugar and because there’s no fat to make you feel full you’ll be tempted to eat more “guilt-free” cookies.
4. Low Fat Salad Dressing-Like the cookies, they have taken out the fat and added extra salt and sugar to make up for it.
5. Bread-Most processed breads, especially white hamburger and hot dog buns contain a good deal of sugar or corn syrup, which is what gives them their golden-brown crust.
6. Fast Food-Needless to say, fast food is generally not good for you. But even if you’re staying away from the sodas and the shakes, everything from the burgers to the fries and even the salads are a potential place to find hidden sugar.
Keep Reading your Labels People!
Until we meet again,

Health | Comments (10)4 Symptoms NOT to be Taken Lightly
While I consider myself pretty informed when it comes to Cancer, when my friend was recently diagnosed I was dumbfounded to say the least. Her Cancer not only took me by surprise, but also her doctors due to her age and her overall healthy lifestyle.
This form of Breast Cancer is apparently sweeping the nation, unfortunately going undetected most times. It is called Inflammatory Breast Cancer. One of the most aggressive forms of Breast Cancer, getting it’s name “inflammatory” by blocking the lymph vessels in the skin of the breast making it often look swollen and red, or “inflamed”.
4 Symptoms to Look For:
- Redness, swelling, and warmth in the breast, often without a distinct lump in the breast.
- The skin of the breast may also appear pink, reddish purple, or bruised.
- The skin may also have ridges or appear pitted, like the skin of an orange, which is caused by a buildup of fluid and edema in the breast.
- Heaviness, burning, aching, increase in size, tenderness, or a nipple that is inverted.
These symptoms usually develop quickly; over a period of weeks or months. Because Inflammatory Breast Cancer affects the lymph nodes, IBC may also present itself under the arm, above the collarbone, or in both places.
Inflammatory Breast Cancer tends to occur more frequently at a younger age and in African American women more than any other race. IBS is not only more likely to metastasized at the time of diagnosis, the survival rate is between 25-50%, which is significantly lower compared to other forms of cancer.
