…Find out what it means to me.

Did you know that today is Women Get Some Respect Day?

In 1967, Aretha Franklin released her hit record, “Respect.” Let’s honor all women today by showing them the respect they deserve! Women are Strong, Passionate, Determined. Hold your head up and be proud to be a Woman! To remind yourself just how phenomenal woman are, this is one of my favorite poems by Maya Angelou…

Phenomenal Woman
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.

I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.

When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style. I’m a woman, Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,

‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Happy Respect Day Ladies!

I’ve Lost My Mojo…

April 29th, 2008

…can you help me find it? I don’t know what has come over me the last few weeks, but I have been incredibly down. I have lost sight of my goals, in turn I have aimed for nothing. How depressing!!!

I feel like a failure, like a fake. I am failing at motherhood, being a wife, a business owner…everything! Isn’t it amazing how quickly these wreched thoughts enter the mind and begin to take over your life?

Here I am preaching motivation when yes I am all about going out and getting what it is you want, but on the inside I am broken. I am alone, scared and depressed. Yes I still have a closet full of demons that are working their way out.

So what has changed…I don’t know. Could it be the lack of respect I get at home from my husband. With the best of intentions his bad attitude could quite possibly be rubbing off on me. Or maybe it’s the house that seems to be falling down before me, literally this house is falling apart! Or maybe I am just plain crazy. Who knows!

Isn’t it nice to know that we are all human, we all get to feeling this way at times. It is what we choose to do about this feeling that truly makes or breaks us, right?

So do I wallow in self-pity, which will have absolutely no affect on what is happening in my life except of course make the situation worse, or do I learn from this experience and move on?

Hmmm…let me think. I am definitely going to dig my heels in and push on!

First, I am going to take today to re-evaluate my goals and then make a plan of action, one that is reachable might I add. Second, I am going to work my plan man!

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…I know I can, I know I can, I know I can…I feel better already:~)

Just watch me!

At What Cost?

April 25th, 2008

The next time you pick up that apple you better think twice about where it came from.  Did you know that many of our crops are being genetically modified to grow better?  Scientist are treating that apple you are about to eat with radioactive gamma rays.

Yes, low levels of radiation are being used to extend shelf life and make the apple appear fresher than what it really is.  This process causes the fruits and vegetables to lose nutrients through extended times between picking and consumption.

In fact, irradiation destroys up to 80% of an apple’s essential vitamins A, B2, B6, C, E, and K, as well as thiamin, folic acid and even essential fatty acids and amino acids.  Sure we now have an apple that is resistant to drought and pests but these engineers are inserting bacteria, viruses, plant or animal cells and even human genes into our produce at what cost to us?

Who Needs Men…Artificial Sperm Coming Soon!

April 23rd, 2008

You can’t live with ‘em and You can’t live without ‘em.  Well now you apparently can ladies!

German geneticists have succeeded in creating artificial sperm using embryonic stem cells.  The process is still very much in the experimental stage.

However, of the twelve baby mice born after eggs were fertilized with the artificial sperm, seven died in the first five months “of causes which we have not been able to determine,” according to Dr Wolfgang Engel, director of Human Genetics at the University of Goettingen.

In theory, this research could lead to aid for couples where the male is infertile (or there is no male involved), although Engel said his team will not conduct any tests using human stem cells; German law forbids such research.

Still, as the technology progresses and attitudes evolve, this may become a viable option for producing children when the traditional source of male chromosomes is unable or unavailable to contribute.

What is the world coming to?????

Today is…

April 21st, 2008

…National Siblings Day? Take your brothers and sisters out to lunch today. Don’t have any? Take someone else’s sibling out to lunch! :~)

“Siblings are the people we practice on, the people who teach us about fairness and cooperation and kindness and caring –quite often the hard way.” ~Pamela Dugdales

For the last 20 years my sister, Casey has always looked up to me as a role-model. She may not know this, but I have always secretly looked to her as my role-model. Casey has an amazing gift of putting herself in others shoes and seeing the world through their eyes.

She relates to people and with her sincere dominior they too relate to her. Casey has taught me to not just tell my daughter how she should handle a particular situation but to relate to her situation and tell her how I handled the same situation when I was her age and why.

This approach has helped my daughter and I tremendously and I will continue to look to my sister for parenting advise even though she is not a parent:~)

Today I think we will tell Casey just how special she is to us!

What have your siblings taught you?

Did You Know…

April 18th, 2008

…that a simple mixture of honey and cinnamon can cure most diseases? Weekly World News has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of
honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning, and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey
and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE
:
Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied three times a day until the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured.

COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH
:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS
:
According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION
:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA
:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ingredient which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

WEIGHT LOSS
:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER
:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

FATIGUE
:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the bo dy. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

Wow, all that with Honey and Cinnamon…it’s worth a shot, eh?

To Believe or Not to Believe

April 16th, 2008

In my opinion, our beliefs are the single most important gift God gave us. They determine our past, present and future. They are the one thing that holds us back and the one thing that keeps us going.

“If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you won’t, you most assuredly won’t. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.”~Denis Waitley

I for one, had my beliefs so badly tainted as a child that I allowed them to take over my life and eventually I became hostage by my horrid images I had about myself.

Our belief about religion, money, family, work and ourselves all affect the person we are today. A friend of mine referred to it as a belief bucket. The truth of the matter is that each belief that we have goes hand in hand with the other.

While we may know what is right and wrong, we do not act on what we know, we act on what we believe.

Luckily God also granted us the ability to change our beliefs. Yes, we are 100% in control of our beliefs. In fact, our beliefs are probably the only thing in the world that we do have 100% control over.

How does one change our beliefs?

I for one, took a few steps back and with the help of some great mentors I was able to see my life in a different light. Once I realized what has been holding me back all these years, that whole in my stomach suddenly began to fill.

This is not enough to change them though. I also forgave those whom filled my belief bucket with rubbish. This included myself, as I am my own worst enemy.

The journey may be long and hard, something we may have to work at everyday, but when we think of what we will become, isn’t letting go worth becoming whole?

The Power of Advertising Co-ops

April 11th, 2008

Many of you have already heard our new Uri Life radio commercial.  It aired about 2 weeks ago in Salt Lake City, UT, San Diego, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Las Vegas, NV and Dallas, TX.  Soon Uri Life will be heard on your radio nationwide!

What many of you do not know is this radio commercial is part of a very large team of individual business partners all participating in an advertising co-op.

What is a co-op?

A co-op is where a group of people split the cost of an ad, and then all the leads and/or orders are distributed among all the participants based on their percentage of participation.

What Benefits can you expect for participating?

1) You are able to get big expensive ads in magazines, radio and TV without having to invest the big bucks!

2)  The risk of failure is greatly minimized so that if an ad does not pull well nobody loses the whole cost of the ad.

What if you chose Not to participate?

It’s a win win situation regardless!  Because of the mass media exposure Uri Life is branding itself for you.  As long as you have your golden arch out and open for everyone to see both on the Internet and in your home town people will hear about Uri Life and will know to find you.  Pretty cool, eh?

If the company you are currently with is not offering such exposure I suggest finding one that is!

Get Excited, Uri is about to Explode!

Let Your Light Shine!

April 7th, 2008

Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to change bad habits?  You know in your heart that you need to change but every time you do you have a ton of bricks collapsing before you.

It’s like we were all designed for failure.  I know that is not true, but do you?

God did not create us to be average, yet so many fall pray to the same old routine.  Not because they like it but because that routine is comfortable.  But is it, are you really happy with your life?

Yes, we inherited death and sin but thanks to Jesus we have a chance to change.  Before I understood the truth I told myself that God would not give me any obstacle that I cannot handle.

Now I realize that yes God will not let me endure anything I cannot handle but God is not the one placing struggles in my life.  I don’t know what your beliefs are, but know that you are not alone.

Know that you are loved and the struggles you encounter are worth the effort if it means letting your light truly shine!

Forever and Always,

Brandi
